All homeowners should be very wary of substandard insulation contractors or installers. The insulation sector has seen much growth in recent times and has seen its share of both good and bad installations. A bad insulation installation can be hugely detrimental to your building, your life and can be very expensive to put right, especially in the case of external insulation. We have become aware of external insulation systems which have had to be completely removed and re-installed at home-owner's expense. This is completely unnecessary and the result of very poor workmanship.

There are a number of things all homeowners should do before deciding on an insulation contractor:

1. Check that contractor is registered with appropriate insulation system.

2. Check that contractor is fully insured.

3. Check that ALL products used are certified by NSAI.

4. Check that contractor is an NSAI registered installer. This registration needs to be verified to ensure it's still active.

5. Check that contractor is registered with SEAI for grant works. It is important that this registration is also active; otherwise you could lose eligibility for your grant payment.

6. Always ask for references and go to see completed projects. Please always verify that the viewed project was actually completed that installer. We have had TWO instances recently where ANOTHER contractor has brought a potential customer to one of OUR sites!! 

7. Ask how long external insulation system is in existence. And how long in Ireland or similar climates. Verify all information given by any contractor.

8. Ask about warranties, verify and READ ALL SMALL PRINT. Some warranties can be very misleading. Also, please remember that no warranty will be honoured if the insulation system is not installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
