Evacuated tubes

3-renewable-energy-mayoEvacuated tubes are a more recent design of solar collector and are generally more efficient than flat plate solar panels. The main reasons for greater efficiency are a larger overall surface area and the multi-directional properties of cylindrical tubes. Their efficiency is comparably best in low-light or cloudy conditions, conditions typical in Ireland. Typically, evacuated tube are 30% more effective than flat plate panels in Ireland.

An evacuated tube panel (also known as vacuum tubes) is made up of multiple glass tubes which act individually to heat up solar absorbers and ultimately, solar working fluid in the manifold in order to heat domestic hot water. Each evacuated tube is made up of two glass tubes made from strong borosilicate glass. The outer tube is transparent allowing the sunlight to pass through with minimal reflection. The inner tube is coated with a special selective coating (Al-N/Al) which features excellent solar radiation absorption and minimal reflection properties. The vacuum space between the two tubes acts as the perfect thermal insulation, thus minimizing heat loss. Please contact us for further information or your site survey and quotation.

Process:

  1. CrssSectionalAcapella02A heat-conducting fluid within the evacuated tubes is heated by the sun and is turned to gas when heated to required temperature.
  2. The gas rises to the top of the tube and transfers its heat to solar fluid (water and glycol) within the manifold. At this point, the gas condenses on the colder surface of the solar fluid piping and runs back down the tube to be reheated by the sun.
  3. The solar fluid is piped to the hot water cylinder, through a coil within, heating the water with as it passes through. The water is now ready for hot water applications throughout the dwelling.
  4. The solar fluid is pumped back up to the manifold where the whole process repeats itself.

Glass construction

Our high efficiency tubes are manufactured from superior borosilicate glass which is the glass of choice for the manufacture of scientific instruments. Borosilicate glass can handle both extreme heat and cold; it has a low rate of thermal expansion and is very resistant to chemical corrosion.  Sodium based glass is generally cheaper to produce and performs worse in relation to handling extremes of hot and cold and also withregard to thermal expansion. Both of these properties are very important when choosing an appropriate glass for you evacuated tube collector.

Solar_tube_close-upCollector/frame construction

Our high efficiency tube collector is made from dycast aluminium. As per the new requirements of National Standards Authority of Ireland the entire collector is manufactured from aluminium. As per the requirements of the Agrement Cert all materials exposed on the roof must be manufactured from aluminium.

Tube Construction

Our tube construction is so advanced, its patented. The alcoholic fluid inside the copper tube is made from a secret mix that allows for a lower evaporation temperature thus increasing the output from the collector. The copper bulb is zinc coated to prevent welding between the copper housing of the bulb and the bulb itself. This ensures that future maintenance is possible.

We offer various sized, copper or stainless steel, twin or triple coil, fully insulated hot water cylinders to accompany our solar collectors. All our collectors achieve a high level of efficiency and are quality certified to the highest levels (EN12975). With Comfort Solutions Ireland, you are guaranteed superior standards. We do the research and the hard work finding the best products so you don’t have to. Then we install using fully qualified and certified technicians with a strong emphasis on quality.
