Construction Industry Register Ireland
Construction Industry Register Ireland
The Construction Industry Register Ireland (CIRI) is a register of Irish construction companies and sole traders. To be a member of the register, construction companies and sole traders must demonstrate they follow industry best practice and comply with the statutory regulations for the construction sector. CIRI has been set up to help members of the public find competent, experienced construction practitioners. Ireland’s construction industry is awash with unqualified, inexperienced and incompetent contractors and CIRI is the first step to making this unfortunate reality a thing of the past, making it easier for members of the public to distinguish between construction companies, sole traders and builders who meet high quality standards from those who don't.
CIRI sets standards for those listed. To be on CIRI competent construction companies, sole traders and builders must comply with the building regulations and an industry code of ethics, they must prove their tax compliance and they must meet the health and safety regulations relating to the construction industry. Prior to the establishment of CIRI there was no way for the Irish public to distinguish construction companies, sole traders and builders who meet these standards from those who don’t.
Construction companies, contractors, sub-contractors, specialist contractors and builders listed on CIRI have a track record of competence and experience which is vetted and checked by members of the CIRI Board which is made up of Government and Construction Industry professionals.
The CIRI register is voluntary to begin with but is expected to become a statutory requirement in 2015.
All the construction companies and sole traders who are on the register are required to meet the following criteria:
- Adhere to an industry Code of Ethics and Obligations
- Demonstrate that they have construction competence and experience.
- They must be tax compliant.
- Commit to undertaking continuous professional development.
- Comply with the health and safety regulations relating to the construction industry.
- Show they have the relevant insurance policies in place.
- Obey all the latest building standards and regulations.
- Attend a CIRI induction course.
For more information on CIRI, see the CIRI website here.

I contacted Comfort Solutions two years ago about refurbishing an existing converted attic space.
