Discover the warmth of renewable energy with wood pellet heating

Chicca Bare 2Are you looking to make the switch to renewable energy but hesitant about the cost or hassle of a major home retrofit? Many people assume that transitioning to greener energy requires extensive renovations, like upgrading insulation or replacing your entire heating system to accommodate a heat pump. However, there’s a simpler and equally sustainable alternative that doesn’t involve an overwhelming upfront investment: wood pellet heating.

A wood pellet heating system offers an efficient, renewable solution that works seamlessly in both homes and businesses without the need for costly retrofits. Whether you’re considering a cosy wood pellet stove for a single room or a full-scale boiler system to heat your entire property, this option provides an affordable, environmentally-friendly way to stay warm. But the advantages don’t stop there—wood pellet heating brings a unique charm and efficiency that few other systems can match.

Solar PV grant reduction

On 1st Jan, the SEAI grant for solar PV has reduced from a maximum of €2,100 to a maximum of €1,800. This is the second reduction on route to removing this grant altogether. The new grant rates are as follows:

  • Support for systems up to 2kWp: €700 per kWp
  • Additional support for systems up to 4kWp: €200 per kWp

Other supports such as the 0% VAT rate on solar PV and the export tariff remain in place.

Solar PV taking over

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are a means of generating your own electricity for your own consumption. Excess electricity can now be exported to the National Electricity Grid for payment, making an investment in a solar PV microgeneration system more viable than ever. Combine that to ever-increasing electricity costs and it seems to be a complete no-brainer to install a solar PV system!

That said, homeowners must be careful. Unscrupulous suppliers of solar PV seem to be appearing every single week and we're seeing an hearing new advertisements all over the place. We're here since 2009 and we've installed countless solar PV systems across the region with a great track record and happy customers.

Let us help you to choose the perfect system for your home, call us today on 098 42699, where a member of our helpful team will be happy to assist you.

New and improved grants for improving your home

The SEAI has just announced an improved grants programme for energy-efficient works, including insulation and renewable heating systems. Under the Better Energy Homes scheme, the government are offering bigger grant amounts across a range of measures, in order to help and encourage homeowners to improve their homes. Measures with improved grants include attic insulation, wall insulation and heat pumps. The age band of eligible homes has also changed and going forward, insulation grants will be available to all homes that were built before 2011 (changed from 2006) and renewable energy grants will be available to all homes built before 2021 (changed from 2011). This brings a lot of newer homes into the mix for grant eligibility and will certainly be good news for many homeowners.

The deep retrofit programme also sees an increase in funding but this is not available to all homes. This scheme is managed through a one-stop-shop service provider like ourselves but is generally only suitable for groups of smaller or similar homes such as those in housing estates or towns. One-off housing, whilst not strictly ineligible, are often unsuitable to this scheme due to the complexity and cost of many of these projects.

New Solar PV grant

The Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten T.D. has today launched a new scheme to support domestic customers who install solar photovoltaic (solar PV) panels on their homes.

This pilot scheme will support the installation of solar PV panels for the generation and self-consumption of renewable electricity. The scheme will be grant aided and there will be additional grants available to those who install battery storage to capture the electricity they generate for use at a later date.
