Overview
An External Wall Insulation (EWI) System is a composite cladding system comprised of suitable insulation and a waterproof coating which is applied to the external walls of a building on the outside. The application of EWI reduces heating bills, and consequently, carbon emissions also.
External Wall Insulation is the most efficient way to insulate the walls of an existing building. Fact.
This method uses the fabric of the building like a storage radiator. The heat in your home will warm the building’s fabric and this heat will be retained until the temperatures within the home begin to drop. At this point, the stored heat will begin to radiate back into the living space, keeping you warm and cosy for longer, without initiating your heating system. This is because the newly installed external wall insulation will stop the heat before it can escape into the outside world.
With up to 40% heat lost through external walls, EWI can help reduce your heating bills by up to 40%. This is a very realistic and achievable figure in a building that previously had no wall insulation. This in turn will also reduce your carbon footprint by cutting your CO2 emissions significantly.
SEAI launched the Better Energy Homes Scheme in May 2011 which provides grant assistance to homeowners for the installation of an EWI system. Better Energy is available for all homes built prior to 2006 and provides up to €4,500* for External Wall Insulation. Comfort Solutions will be glad to assist you with a grant application if you so require. See our Better Energy Homes section for further information on these grants or contact us for general information.
We can prove by means of thermal imaging that external insulation is by far the most complete and efficient method of wall insulation. Thermal imaging can expose any weak points in an insulation system and has done so in many cases. If you wish to have thermal imaging carried out on your house, please contact us.

* €4,500 available to detached houses. Semi-detached or End-of-terrace houses are entitled to €3,400 and apartments and mid-terrace houses, €2,250. See our section on Better Energy Homes for further details on grants.

While they didn't install the boiler initially, they re-installed the boiler correctly and corrected everything. Fergus Mc Manamon is an excellent service provider. I particularly like his attention to detail. When he says he will turn up, he does; When he says he will come back with a price or a report, he does; And he completes his work to the highest possible standard.
