Damproofing

Many older homes in Ireland suffer from dampness issues. There are various types of dampness problems including penetrating damp, rising damp and condensation to name but a few. Our External Wall Insulation systems are an excellent way to combat penetrating dampness in addition to insulation and aesthetic benefits. Condensation can be treated in a number of ways including insulation, ventilation and anti-mould paint. Rising damp has up to recently, posed a larger problem. After all, if there's no Damp Proof Course (DPC) built into the walls at ground level, what will stop moisture from rising up through the substrate. Well, we can help. Comfort Solutions Ireland offer DPC for exterior and interior walls that can be inserted, even after the wall is built. We can damp proof any masonry wall including block walls, stone walls, brick walls and concrete walls. There are two main methods we use:

  1. Chemical Injection DPC
  2. Electro Osmosis DPC

Chemical Injection DPC

This is the most common type of DPC used to treat damp walls. We recommend the use of chemical injection for many homes and we love to hear the success stories. Our chemical injection system is so effective against rising damp that a 20 year warrranty accompanies every installation!

Method:

We drill a series of 12mm holes into your walls along the line where DPC is required. Then we inject, under pressure, a specialised DPC fluid into the walls as per BS 6576/05. This method is a specialist application and is covered by a written guarantee as mentioned above. After injection, the DPC fluid reacts to form a water repellent silicone resin network within the capillaries of the substrate. This network is permeable to water vapour which means that the walls can "breathe" and dry out naturally. The formulation is not reliant on alkalinity for effective curing. Holes are patched up afterwards or covered if appopriate.

Benefits:
  • Permanently guards against the dangers of rising damp
  • Protects property of any age or structure
  • Simple to install with little disturbance to building structure
  • Quickly effective
  • Ideal to fit in conjuntion with EWI
  • 20 year Guarantee

Electro Osmosis DPC

This is another hugely effective method for controlling dampness. Electro Osmosis or "Lectros" uses an electrical charge to repel water molecules downward and back into the ground. Again, this is a proven and expert application and is accompanied by a 30 year warranty.

Method:

A series of small holes are drilled in a line in the outside masonry just above ground level where the DPC is required. Into thes holes, tiny titanium anodes are inserted and then linked by a special connecting wire which is 'pointed' into the wall. The system then introduces a very small and perfectly safe electric current into the wall. Its effect is to repel the rising moisture molecules down the walls and harmlessly back into the ground. As long as this tiny positive charge is maintained, the protected walls remain dry and totally free of damp. Installation is neat and quick. The finished result is virtually invisible and the disruption is minimal

Benefits:
  • Permanently guards against the dangers of rising damp
  • Protects property of any age or structure
  • Simple to install with little disturbance to building structure
  • Immediately effective
  • Virtually indestructible (self healing)
  • Can be fitted with monitoring system for added peace of mind
  • 30 year Guarantee
