Fuel security has become a major concern for both industrial and residential customers with the rapidly rising costs of oil and gas. As these fossil fuel costs continue to be volatile and likely to continue in an upward spiral, more and more customers are turning to wood pellets as a source of fuel for heating.
Bulk wood pellets are cheaper than most other fuel types and offer a very high level of convenience as a home heating system (see wood pellet boilers). Wood pellets offer much higher levels of convenience, warmth and comfort for use in wood pellet stoves in comparison to traditional solid fuel stoves and fires. Not only are wood pellets more economical and convenient but they contribute greatly in the fight against climate change too. Every 2.1 tonnes of pellets used prevents 1,000 litres of oil being burnt, saving approximately 2 tonnes of CO2 emissions!

- Wood pellets do NOT track the price of oil and gas in an upward spiral. This is because they are a renewable resource whose raw material is created in abundance every day in Ireland. Wood pellets are delivered in trucks which are run on oil so oil prices will affect pellet prices but only in a small way.
No additives or binding agents are used in the manufacturing of most wood pellets. The lignin present in the raw material is sufficient to bind the pellets together and this natural constituent of wood is released under the heat and pressure of the pelleting process.
