The Better Energy Home scheme is open and available for the energy efficient retrofit of your home.

Grant funding for insulation, boiler upgrades and solar hot water is still in place. The Better Energy Homes scheme offers "cash grants" to home owners looking to improve energy efficiency in their home. On the 10th March 2015, the Better Energy Homes scheme was revised and improved with increased grants amounts and additional incentives across the board. Read on below to see exactly what you are entitled to and feel free to contact us anytime for further information and advice.

The grant amounts for the Better Energy Homes programme are as follows (correct as of 10th March 2015):

* Cash grants are a set value, unless the expenditure is below the set value, in which case the actual expenditure will be reimbursed

** A Building Energy Rating (BER) is an integral part of all grant applications under the Better Energy Homes scheme, whereby homeowners must undertake a BER on their home after grant aided works have been completed. A homeowner is entitled to BER funding of €50 once per home. This funding will be applied to your grant application automatically provided you have never applied previously for BER funding. You will be informed during the online grant application process if BER funding is available for your home or as part of your Letter of Grant Offer if you have applied through the post.

*** If a householder undertakes three measures from the list above, they will receive an additional bonus grant payment of €300. A further additional grant payment of €100 is available for householders who undertake four or more measures.  In addition, the minimum grant threshold of €400 has been abolished. This is all applicable for all new grant applications and all grants that remain unpaid on 10th March 2015.

The Better Energy Homes grant must be applied for before works commence and there is then a 6 month window during which to carry out the works. The grant money is then claimed after the measures are completed, the Declaration Of Works form has been completed and returned to SEAI and the contractor has been paid by or has entered a financing agreement with the homeowner.

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) will monitor all activity by recording the Building Energy Rating (BER) of every home before and after works are carried out, and verifying what measures have been carried out and by whom.
